Witch's Bottle

Hi Everyone!

As promised, Feather and I are adding some spells we are fans of. Personally I like to create a big defense around my home regardless of the
circumstances...so one of my tried and true defense methods is also one of the older methods I know about....A Witch's Bottle!

Ok, a quick thing about Witch's Bottles...they have been around since the 1500's and were believed to be used against witchcraft of another witch or to protect the homestead. ECauldren has a nice synopsis of the history and current use that you can read here.

Creating Your Own Witch's Bottle
So the basic premise of a Witch's Bottle is to collect all of the nastiest things that you want to symbolically and metaphysically deflect. They also have the added value of acting as magnets for said negativity and if you add a mirror to the bottom of your bottle, will bounce that shit right back! Originally this bottle may have been more of a harmful item, historically causing the attacking Witch to be afflicted with the curse she flung times three. This meant harvesting bodily fluids or even pubic hairs from the attacker to add to your bottle. Luckily we are going to be making a general defense bottle rather than something direct as I have no idea how to go about collecting your enemy's pee or pubes :-P

Ingredients:
  • A small glass jar with a top
  • Rusty Nails (the rustier the better and if you can find iron...great!)
  • Rusty razors, pins, broken metal
  • Charcoal (burn negative papers like bills or the burnt remains of a cleansing item like sage or Palo Santo)
  • Salt - blessed or black salt is always better
  • Vinegar or red wine - This will represent the blood and bodily fluid
  • Optional: Thorns
  • Optional: Bones (please keep in mind this bottle is meant to deflect negative energy, the last thing you would want to do is harm an animal to obtain an ingredient. Please be conscientious about your ingredients)
  • Optional: Rotting meat
First, if you are intending to reflect the negativity coming your way, place your mirror at the bottom of your jar. Make sure you bless the mirror by letting it know it's job, find your own words to bless it as a magnet and mirror for all negativity that surrounds you. Second, fill the jar about half way full with all your nastiness. While doing so think about all of the negativity you are trying to repel; whether it's generalized or a specific attack from someone. Next, you can either fill the rest of the jar with your own urine/spit/blood/bodily fluids to mark the jar as your own. If you happen to be uncomfortable with using your own fluids, bring in the wine or vinegar after you've consecrated it as a representation of yourself and fill the jar the rest of your way.  Now that you've filled your jar you'll want to cap it. It's best to seal the cap with candle wax; black and white tend to work well for protection and purity but you can work in any color you would feel best for protection.

Ok! You've got your jar. Your last step is to place it somewhere. I've heard three different schools of thought on this one. One, you can place your bottle somewhere in the home; like in a chimney or around your threshold to act as a close by magnet. Many people are not a fan of this as the bottle will have the potential of breaking and releasing EVERYTHING all over the place. My favorite technique is to bury the bottle on your property as to still be near but not run the risk of it breaking inside my sacred area. This might be tough for people that don't have property per say but you can easily place the bottle out on a window sill or nearby if you can hide it from prying eyes. Lastly, some people feel like the bottle needs to be as far away as possible from the witch in order to keep the negativity just as far. I guess this really just has to do with what you feel works best.

Well, this may not be the most glamorous spell out there but it sure is effective. Hope you all get a chance to try it out or if you are looking for a prettier option, try a witch's ball instead. Blessed be everyone!
